Army, F.B.I Know of No Returned Japs

Both Army and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials declared today that to their knowledge no Japanese families were being permitted to move back into the Seattle area.

There have been persistent rumors the past several Japanese had returned to farms on the eastern side of Lake Washington. The reports were so widespread that petitions of protest were circulated in some east side areas.

"The exclusion order is still in effect, and this is a restricted area," an Army spokesman said. "There are two or three Japanese here, but they are United States soldiers, here on furlough. The Army knows, of course, where they are and why they are here."

An F.B.I. representative declared that the bureau had not been informed of the return of any Japanese to farms here.
