JAPANESE SWARMING ACROSS.

Two Steamships En Route From Hawaii With 1,677 Nipponese.

VICTORIA, B.C., Saturday, July 13. -- The steamship Kumeric left Honolulu Tuesday for Victoria and Vancouver with 1,177 Japanese. Her charterers sought to bring over 2,000 but Inspectors Balles and Bulger, of San Francisco, refused to license the steamship for more than 1,200. Steamship Aki Maru, which left Yokohama Wednesday, has nearly 500 Japanese on board for Victoria and Seattle, of whom 313 will be landed here. Steamship Tartar, of the C.P.R., reached William Head last night from Yokohama and will be docked at once.

News has been received from Japan that Russia has agreed to compensate the Japanese owners of the Japanese sealing schooner Kompira Maru, seized last July off Copper Island by a Russian battleship. The Japanese claimed $9,000 and the return of their schooner and gear.
