Legion's Chief Wants Army To Run Jap Camps

HOLLYWOOD, May 26.--(AP)--Control of Japanese in the United States, says Roane Waring, national commander of the American Legion, should be placed in the Army's hands.

"In stating that Japanese released from relocation centers have been thoroughly investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the War Relocation Authority is guilty of a fraud against America," he declared in addressing Legionnaires here last night.

"This statement is either a deliberate untruth, or it is made by one too ignorant to know the facts."

Waring stated he had a letter from F.B.I. Chief J. Edgar Hoover denying that the F.B.I. had investigated approximately 180 Japanese prior to their release recently by the War Relocation Authority.

"The American Legion has come out definitely against permitting the War Relocation Authority or any other group of bureaucrats to have control of the Japanese," he said. "The Legion believes the Japanese should be kept in these centers, and kept there under Army supervision."
