JAPANESE REFUSED MARRIAGE LICENSE

Wealthy Brown Man Wanted to Wed White Woman but Oregon County Clerk Turns Him Down.

PORTLAND, Ore., Tuesday, April 23. -- M. Kamuria, a member of the wealthy commission firm of Kamuria & Co., of San Francisco, and a descendant of one of the noble families of Japan, was refused a marriage license here yesterday to marry an American girl. County Clerk Fields forbade the license on the grounds of miscegenation.

Kamuria was keenly disappointed. He could not understand why he is not permitted to marry an American girl, providing she is willing, and appealed to the clerks in the county clerk's office. The Japanese said he will try to obtain a license in other counties of the state. He would not give the name of his prospective bride when he learned he could not get a license, and the girl who accompanied him to the courthouse also refused to give her name. She is a pretty brunette about 20 years old. Kamuria is short of stature and was faultlessly dressed with white vest and silk hat.
