Liberties Union Backs Jap Suit

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20. -- (AP) -- The American Civil Literties [Liberties] Union has intervened for Mrs. Toki Wakayama, California-born Japanese internee at the Santa Anita reception center, against the constitutionality of Lieut. Gen. J.L. DeWitt's interning order.

The union's petition, filed in United States District Court, states General De Witt's order was arbitrary and encroached upon the rights of civilian authorities. It asks that American-born Japanese, as distinguished from enemy aliens be allowed to move to unrestricted parts of the nation after concluding their business affairs here. Mrs. Wakayama is the wife of Ernest Wakayama, also an American citizen, who served in the First World War.
