Sentry Slays Jap Alien On Hawaii Beach
HONOLULU, July 28. -- Army authorities said yesterday that Ghchiro Uyeno, 52 years old, a Japanese alien, was shot and killed by a sentry Sunday night when he failed to halt when challenged and attempted to run from a beach, where he had been standing.
The sentry, on patrol duty, fired seven stots [shots], six of which hit the Japanese.
Authorities pointed out that Uyeno violated three military regulations: First, the curfew against being abroad during a blackout; second, being in a forbidden area adjacent to a military installation at Bellows Field, and third, failure to obey the sentry when properly challgned. They added that an investigation was under way.
