Last of Japs To Leave King County June 3

New Evacuation Orders Affect Big Areas in Washington, Oregon

All Japanese in 14 Western Washington counties, including those remaining in King County, and 20 Western Oregon counties must leave between June 1 and 3 under sweeping evacuation orders announced today by Lieut. Gen. J. L. DeWitt, commanding the Western Defense Command.

The area covered is the largest to be included in orders issued during a single day since evacuation of Military Area No. 1 began. Fewer than 1,000 Japanese are involved, however.

Only six counties in the military area will remain unevacuated after new orders are carried out.

Few Left in County

The number of Japanese remaining in King County is not known exactly, but officials said it is small. The King County evacuees affected by the new order will register next Wednesday at 1801 Hewitt Ave., Everett, closest control center for the area in which they are included. Other Japanese affected by this order are those in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island and San Juan Counties.

Those living nearer Burlington, Whatcom County, will register at the Burlington firehall.

The orders, showing the number of Japanese listed by the census in each county, follow:
