Petition Asks Fair Deal For Jap Evacuees

A petition from 28 citizens, headed by Howard Lee Nostrand, 5008 22nd Ave. N.E., today asked the City Council to treat "with all possible courtesy and fairness" the Japanese who are being evacuated from Seattle.

The petition referred to a refusal of the Council to grant a refund to an interned Japanese on an unused municipal-golf-course card.

It said this "appeared to represent a policy capable of causing antagonism and bitterness, and of counteracting the hard work of those other citizens who are laboring to conduct the evacuation in a spirit of kindliness and good will."

The petition contained no Japanese names. It urged that refunds be made for any unused golf cards.
