Sugar Hoards Found In B.C. Jap Homes

Special to The Times.

VANCOUVER, B.C., March 21. -- A tip to police that Jap families at Hillcrest, Vancouver Island, were hoarding sugar, today revealed that two Japanese families had stored nearly 300 pounds over the quota specified in the January 26 rationing order.

Since the Japanese concerned are to be evacuated from the Coast area shortly, they will not be prosecuted.

Provincial Police found two 100-pound sacks of sugar in the home of Mrs. Moorita Kazou, and seized 192 pounds. In the other Jap home, the police seized 94 pounds of sugar.
