Japanese On Island Would Raise Crops

The Japanese-American Citizens League of Bainbridge Island advised government officials today its members are completely willing to cooperate in a proposed evacuation move, but believe they can do more for the country if they continue planting and harvesting crops "under protective custody."

League members said they were willing to raise any crops the government recommends, comply with government travel regulations and other restrictions, and be responsible for all Japanese living on the island.

The league said it felt these plans should be easy to carry out, since members live on an island, and are land owners.
