Japs Remain Home After Strike Threat

PORTAND, Or., Friday, Feb. 13.--(UP)--A threatened walkout of Congress of Industrial Organizations unionists at the Clark & Wilson Lumber Company here was averted today when Japanese laborers remained at home, St. John's police officers reported.

The unionists had refused to work if the 12 Japanese remained on the job, said Patrolman J.F. Hilton.

A company spokesman said about 12 Japanese were employed as common laborers, and he said he understood "only one or two" of them were American citizens.
