Enemy Aliens To Be Hired On City Projects
The Municipal Board of Public Works a few weeks ago barred employment of aliens of Italy, Germany and Japan on city construction jobs, only to learn today that there aren't enough United States citizens available for the work and that important projects might be held up if aliens were not put to work.
So the board today set a policy of allowing aliens with first citizenship papers who are passed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to work for contractors on city projects, and instructed its secretary, G.W. Roberge, to carry out the policy.
The unusual development came to the board's attention when L. Paul Fiorito, executive of the Northwest Construction Company, which is widening Airport Way, protested he can't find enough men without using eight or ten aliens.
