ALIENS DEPRIVED OF MAPS, PHOTOS

United States Attorney J. Charles Dennis' office announced today that Japanese, German and Italian aliens must surrender certain photographs, sketches and maps as well as cameras, firearms and short-wave radios.

A complete list of what must be surrendered by enemy aliens was contained in a presidential proclamation received here today.

S.F. Deadline Extended

Although the deadline for surrendering firearms was extended in San Francisco from last night until 11 o'clock Thursday night until 11 o'clock Thursday night, Gerald Shucklin, chief assistant to Dennis, said his office had not been notified of an extension of the Seattle deadline. The deadline for surrendering cameras and short-wave radios expired here at 11 o'clock the night of December 29.

Shucklin suggested that enemy aliens surrender the following to Seattle police headquarters immediately if they have not done so already:

Papers, documents or books in which there may be invisible writing: photographs, sketches or pictures, drawings, maps or graphical representations of any military or naval installations or equipment or of any arms, ammunition, implements of war, device or thing used or intended to be used in the combat equipment of the land or naval forces of the United States or of any military or naval post, camp or station.

Pointing out that such information might be contained in ordinary books, such as an encyclopedia, Shucklin said authorities here would use common sense in determining what material should be surrendered.

Other equipment and material that also must be surrendered by the enemy aliens include:

Firearms, weapons or implements of war or component parts thereof; ammunition, bombs, explosives or material used in the manufacture of explosives; short-wave radio receiving, transmitting and signal devices, codes or ciphers, and cameras.
