INTERNEE CAMPS WILL RISE IN S.W.

WASHINGTON, Thursday, Dec. 18. -- (AP) -- Enemy aliens ordered interned for the duration of the war will be sent to camps to be built in the southwestern states.

In making this announcement today, the War Department said the first of three permanent internment camps will be completed by early spring. Until these camps are ready, the aliens are being interned temporarily at various Army camps throughout the country.

The regulations issued last week after proclamations by President Roosevelt give the federal government powers of summary arrest and detention of any Japanese. Germans and Italians over 14 years old who are deemed to be "dangerous to the public peace or safety of the United States."

Aliens arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and by the Immigration Service, or by Army officials are given hearings, and if ordered interned, are surrendered into the custody of the provost marshal general of the Army.

The exact sites of the three internment camps were not disclosed.
