Tolerance Appeal Made for Japanese

The Seattle local of the National Urban League, an organization for social service among Negroes, today requested that all citizens refrain from any hysteria directed against Japanese residents.

The league pointed out that many of the Japanese in this area have lived here for years and conducted themselves as law-abiding citizens. In addition many of the foreign-born Japanese have children who were born here and are United States citizens, the league said. Attention also was called to the fact that many Japanese now are serving in the United States Army.
