Churchmen Ask Friendship For Japanese Here

Clear thinking and a Christian attitude toward Seattle Japanese was urged in a statement issued yesterday by a Methodist Preachers' Association committee.

Members of the committee are the Rev. Harlan R. Stone, pastor of Trinity Church and president of the Association; the Rev. Dr. Newton E. Moats, pastor of First Church, and the Rev. Dr. Charles MacCaughey, Seattle-Tacoma District superintendent.

"These people are no more responsible for this war than we are," their statement said.

They pointed out that any effort to offer these Japanese insult or injury in the slightest degree through a mistaken sense of patriotism would be "unfortunate and tragic."

"A great service Christian people can render today," the statement concluded, "is the promotion of good will and understanding against the inevitable day of place."
