NO JAPANESE NEED APPLY

City Officials Decide That Enough White Men Are Available for Municipal Work.

The civil service commission last night ordered City Librarian Smith to discharge his Japanese assistant janitor unless that personage is a citizen of the United States. Mr. Smith had reported to the committee that he had employed the little brown man because no white man had asked for the job. The city charter requires all city employes to be citizens of the republic, and the commission directed Mr. Smith to govern himself accordingly.

President Randolph of the commission announced that he was not in favor of employing Japanese for city positions under any circumstances, declaring that he thought there were plenty of white men available.
