American-Born Japanese Group Indorses Draft
PORTLAND, Or., Friday. Aug. 30--(AP)--The conscription bill before Congress was indorsed last night by Walter T. Tsukamoto, president of the Japanese-American Citizens' League, at its sixth annual national convention here.
"It is the duty of every American--and that means all of us who cherish the ideals of our democratic institutions--to be prepared to protect, defend and perpetuate our American form of government and our way of life," the Sacramento, Calif., attorney declared.
Tsukamoto, who holds a captaincy in the Judge Advocate General's Department, United States Army Reserve, continued: "The Americans of Japanese ancestry have a duty to the country just as other racial American groups, and this love of country and duty does not and must not be colored by any thought of foreign ties."
Saburo Kido, San Francisco attorney, protested regulations hampering Japanese-American citizens seeking to enter the Army and Navy.
