Certain Alien Tavern Owners To Lose Permits

OLYMPIA, Saturday, Sept. 30. -- (UP) -- Italian or Japanese aliens operating taverns will lose their licenses tomorrow because neutral trade agreements with their homelands have expired.

In a last-minute rush to save their businesses, aliens incorporated with American citizens nominally holding a majority of stock. Others sold out as a precaution.

Admiral Luther E. Gregory, chairman of the state Liquor Control Board, said state law did not affect aliens whose countries hold trade agreements with the United States.

Exact numbers of taverns affected by the ruling was not available, but Admiral Gregory estimated approximately fifty Italians were involved.
