GIRL RESERVES

More than 125 fathers and daughters dined at the Girl reserve father-daughter banquet last evening at the Y.M.C.A. Included on the program were songs by the Phyllis Wheatley trio with Singers Jean McIver, Joyce Cooper and Marian Valley, and by the Japanese Girl Reserve trio with Dorothy Ysudo, Masa Yamamura and Mrs. S. Yamada singing. June Davis and Marguerite Tannler acted as "professor quiz" interrogators.

The history of the Girl Reserves was given in costume by Lucile Lund, Lillian Silvernell and Barbara Ingberg of the Tacoma Girl Reserves. Announcement of nominees for the Senior Girl Reserve Interclub offices was made at the dinner.

Nominees are Betty Brace, Blanche Kinnear and Wraye McDonald, president; Shirley Herrick, Mildred Mash and Virginia Peterson, vice president; Joyce Cooper, Phyllis Wheatley and Elsie Lindstrom, secretary, and June Eng, Jacqueline Parr, Miyoko Senda and Virginia Slate, treasurer. Members of all Girl Reserve clubs in Seattle will vote for candidates from Monday until May 1. The winners will be announced at an interclub council meeting Friday, May 5.

A puppet show, fortune telling an old-fashioned garden, a fish pond, balloons and popcorn will be a few of the features of the annual Penny Carnival at the Y.W.C.A. May 6, sponsored by Girl Reserve clubs. A Chinese drama will be presented by a group of Chinese girls headed by Beatrice Chan. Evelyn Handy, in charge of the community relations committee of the University Y.M.C.A., will coach the production.

Committees for the all-city Girl Reserve dance to be held the latter part of May at the Y.W.C.A., sponsored by the Triquan Club were announced at the Queen Anne Girl Reserve meeting this week by President Wilda Mullen, Margaret Christenson will head the committee, assisted by Rollie Wilson, program; Eleanor Sutton, decoration, and Reba Brace, publicity. Mrs. Thomas E. Sanders, 318 W. Highland Dr., was welcomed as the new adviser at a tea Monday.

Olive Endresen, president, Patricia Pittack, vice president, Dorothy Erickson, secretary, and Margie Petersen, treasurer, were installed as officers of a girl reserve club at Plymouth Congregational Church Wednesday. Committee chairmen named by the president are: Publicity, Mary Chinn and Mary Alice Root; program, Mary Davies, Bea Erickson, Vedola Johnson and Margie Petersen; parliamentarian, Claire Shaughnessy; friendship, Margie Peterson and Claire Shaughnessy; song. Arlene Bryant and Barbara Sellan. Vice President Patricia Pittack will be in charge of the membership committee.

A special Girl Reserve recognition service was presented by members of the Roosevelt High School club at a leaders' training course Monday at Eagleson Hall. The girls in the service were Irma Jean Wilson, Ila Wood, Urla Trueblood, Marguerite Tannier, Janet Jacobson, Lois Logan, Vivian Crosby, Mary Jean Wilson, Beattie Jean Westerling, and Helen Mayo.

Nominations for the Junior Interclub officers will be made at the Junior Girl Reserve Conference at Bainbridge Island Y.W.C.A. camp June 10-11.

Arlene Brauer has been named chairman of the city-wide recognition service for Girl Reserves Sunday, May 21. Her committee includes Dora Davis, Jean Jay, Beatrice Chan, Helen Richardson and two junior representatives to be selected.
