JAPANESE ON STRIKE.

Four Hundred Mill Hands Object to Having Wages Cut.

NEW WESTMINSTER, Thursday, Jan. 19. Four hundred Japanese mill hands are out on strike in this city. After roll call yesterday morning in the three big mills here the Japanese were informed that their wages would be cut down from $1.50 to $1.20 per day. The Japanese objected and struck. The mills cannot do without this cheap labor and the matter of compensation will be made the subject of a conference tonight.
