Japanese Asks Understanding In Asian War

The Rev. Dr. Yutaka Minaguchi Japanese pastor, said yesterday in an address to members of the Optimist Club, that a Chinese victory in the present Sino-Japanese war would not result in peace.

"Some people say that if Japanese goods were boycotted the war would be over in twenty-four hours," Dr. Minaguchi said. "But even if they Japanese should lose, there would be counter-attacks and the goal of peace would not be attained."

Dr. Minaguchi appealed to the American people to attempt reconciliation of two nations instead of taking sides.

"Sides should not be taken at the present time because always there are two sides to every question and any judgment made now would be premature," he said.

Dr. Minaguchi traced the background of the conflict and said the Japanese government always had a conciliatory attitude toward China until that attitude was mistaken for a sign of weakness.

"Agitation, inspired by Russian Communists, continued against Japanese interests in China and Manchoukuo, so the Japanese had to take action. When the Communists are driven from China, there will be peace in the Orient," the pastor said.
