Local Japanese Farmers Form Marketing Unit
Organization of a Japanese fruit and vegetable growers' cooperative marketing association in an effort to regulate volume of produce shipments to Western Avenue, so that farmers will be able to obtain better prices for their fresh produce, was announced today.
The new group, which has a membership of more than 300 King County truck farmers, will operate under the name of the Washington Grower's Union of King County. A marketing committee and a board of eleven directors will study marketing conditions and prorate daily shipments of members to eliminate overshipment of produce to markets.
R.Y. Maeda, committeeman said: "At present it is difficult for the farmer to tell just how much produce to harvest and bring to market. He loses heavily when he brings too much. We hope to reduce these losses."
