J.Y. Sakamoto Named Head Of Japanese Unit

James Y. Sakamoto, 157 15th Ave., editor and publisher of The Japanese-American Courier, was elected president of the Japanese-American Citizens' League as the organization's three-day convention closed late yesterday.

The organization, formed here in 1930, has chapters in all the western states and Hawaii. The league fosters interest of American-born Japanese in civic duties. It meets every two years.

Other officers are Thomas Iseri of Kent and Lyle K. Kurasaki, Brawley, Calif., vice presidents; Susumu Togasaki, Alameda, Calif., treasurer; Walter T. Tsukamoto, Sacramento, executive secretary, and Masao Satow, Los Angeles, assistant executive secretary.

Los Angeles was selected for the 1938 meeting. A ball last night at the Olympic Hotel was a feature of the convention.
