ALIEN MENACE SEEN AT WAPATO

OLYMPIA, Thursday, May 21. -- (AP) -- Governor Martin said today he was willing to cooperate in any way possible in an investigation of what the Ashue Grange at Wapato contended is an "alien Oriental problem" in that vicinity.

Governor Martin suggested a conference in the near future in Wapato.

C.R. Moe, master of the Ashue Grange, and chairman of the Alien Oriental Committee, wrote the governor and Attorney-General G.W. Hamilton that this problem "recently had become very aggravated," and suggested an "investigation with a view to prosecution."

"The Japanese tenant farmers have increased considerably," Moe wrote. "Due to this increase and the inability of the white farmer to meet this competition, white farmers in the Yakima Valley will operate at a serious loss this season."

"Another very serious phase," Moe said, "are the Filipinos. They are very antisocial and make regular practice of consorting with young white women."
