Civic Leaders Greet Okamoto
Welcoming Issaku Okamoto, newly appointed Japanese consul to Seattle, and Mrs. Okamoto, Seattle civic leaders and Japanese business men gathered at a dinner in the Junior ballroom of the Olympic Hotel last night.
The event was sponsored by the Japan Society of Seattle.
Speakers included Mayor Charles L. Smith; State Representative Donald A. McDonald, representing the state in the absence of Gov. Clarence D. Martin; Alfred H. Lundin, president of the Chamber of Commerce; Corwin S. Shank, representing the Japan Society; Dean Edward H. Lauer of the University of Washington and Otto K. Strizek, dean of the consular corps.
Mr. Okamoto succeeds Kiyoshi Uchiyama, who was transferred to the Philippines.
