Japanese Speaker Sees Seattle Gain In Chinese Peace

Seattle, as the American gateway to the Orient, stands to gain greatly by the establishment of peace in China and Manchuria, H. Hoshida, chancellor of the Japanese consolate [consulate] in Seattle, today told the University Kiwanis Club at a luncheon in the Wilsonian Hotel.

Steady business transaction is possible only in those countries where peace is maintained by a stable government," Mr. Hoshida said. "In China there has been no stable government since the downfall of the Ching dynasty in 1912.

"If peace and order are maintained in due course in all districts of China, the outlook for trade, not only with Japan but with all other countries, will be undeniably brightened. This will reflect upon the progress of the Pacific Coast, which has such a keen interest in the Orient."
