NEW MARYKNOLL CHURCH GROUND WILL BE BROKEN

Bishop O'Dea Will Participate in Ceremonies; Japanese Consul Will Turn First Spade of Earth.

Colorful ceremonies will attend special exercises tomorrow for two Seattle religious groups, to be held in observance of new strides of church expansion.

The Rt. Rev. Edward J. O'Dea, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Seattle, Mayor Edwards and other civic and church dignitaries will gather at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon to break first ground for the new Catholic Maryknoll school and church for Japanese, at 17th Avenue and East Jefferson Street.

Following regular worship at 11 o'clock tomorrow, officers and members of Trinity Parish Church will adjourn to the adjacent parish house, under construction at 8th Avenue and James Street, to observe the laying of the cornerstone for their modern new social hall and rectory.

Japanese Consul Participates.

Hon. Suemasa Okamoto, Japanese Consul in Seattle, will turn the first spade of earth for the new $50,000 Maryknoll structure and Bishop O'Dea will offer the sermon address. Seattle Japanese have contributed $5,000 for the building's final costs. The new edifice will climax three years' effort by the Maryknoll Order which, in the beginning, numbered but one Catholic Japanese family.

Trinity Parish has been anticipating tomorrow's festivities for the new social unit but inclement weather during the recent three weeks' cold spell considerably delayed the cornerstone ceremony. The Rev. Charles Stanley Mook, rector, announces that the building when finished will exist as a memorial to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sackville Cox of East Orange, N.J., who a few years ago bequeathed $100,000 to Trinity Parish for such a purpose.

Young men of the church will enact Mr. Mook's sermon on the parable of the laborers in the vineyard at evening services in Trinity Church tomorrow. In the morning Mr. Mook will preach on "Living With a Purpose."
