Alien Laws Bar Woman Who Wed Japanese Here

By Associated Press.

LOS ANGELES, Friday, May 4. -- Although a member of a family that since early days of California has been prominent in the financial and social life of the state, Mrs. Lucy Banning Ross Ota applied at the United States immigration office for an alien's permit to reenter the United States.

The action was necessary because Mrs. Ota's fourth marriage, which took place last January in Seatlte, was to a Japanese, Setsuzo Ota, and thereby she lost her American citizenship. At the Ota home it was announced that the permit to reenter is preliminary to a belated honeymoon trip to Europe which the couple will take next month.

Mrs. Ota is a daughter of the late Gen. Phineas Banning.
