ASSIMILATION OF JAPANESE IN THIS COUNTRY IS URGED

LOS ANGELES, Cal., Tuesday, July 20. -- The American people ought to assimilate the Japanese who are in this country, first socially and then by intermarriage, in the opinion of Junzo Sasamori, general secretary of the Central Japanese Association of Southern California, expressed here last night in testifying before King Swope of Kentucky and J. Will Taylor, members of the House of Representatives committee on immigration and naturalization.

Mr. Sasamori insisted that although he had been taught in Japan that sovereign power of the emperor was the divine light, he no longer believed it, but had become to believe that the constitution of the United States was the divine light. He said there are 73 Protestant churches ministering to the Japanese in this country and said the Christian faith was in the lead among the Japanese in California.

Investigator Gives Testimony.

Albert Chapelle, an investigator, testified he was satisfied the Japanese in attempting to buy large tracts of land fronting on Magdalena and San Quentin Bays in Lower California had undertaken to establish military bases there. He declared he had seen Japanese of military bearing apparently taking observations of the topography of these sections.

When asked if it was not a fact that many Japanese had served the United States valiantly in the world war, the witness said this probably was true. But, he added, there were many Japanese employed in American homes who are disloyal to this country.

Chapelle declared there was a Japanese night school at El Monte, near here, where the Japanese children were taught to be loyal to Japan at any cost.
