ANNUAL NIPPON CLUB TOURNEY STARTS TODAY

Eighty Entries in Japanese Tournament -- Only Three Girls to Compete.

Play in the fourth annual tournament of the Nippon Tennis Club starts this afternoon at the club courts on the corner of Eighth Avenue and Washington Street and will continue for the next three weeks. Matches will be played off only after 6:30 on week days.

There are eighty entries in the tourney, three of them Japanese girl net stars. The committee of which G. Y. Kurata is chairman has classified the players into three groups according to their skill and ability. Class A boasts about eighteen players, Class B thirty and Class C about thirty-two.

Because of their few numbers, no separate event has been scheduled for the girls, who have been put in class C, where they were compete for honors against the masculine tennis sharks.

The tournament is expected to keep the two courts of the club more than busy for the next few weeks and the committee has cordially invited local tennis enthusiasts to watch any matches they desire.

Prizes will be given in the form of merchandise while Piper & Taft's has donated a trophy cup to go to the winner of the class A division.
