MASQUERADING AS SWEDE IS CHARGE

Elizabeth Willard, Alleged Unnaturalized German, Arrested by Federal Officers.

Charged by naval intelligence officers with having masqueraded as a Swedish subject, Miss Elizabeth Willard, 33 years old, of Los Angeles, an alleged unnaturalized German, was arrested as she disembarked from the steamship Celilo upon the vessel's arrival in Seattle last night from California. Sugi Yoshio, 20 years old, who gave his occupation as a waiter, and who is said to be a close companion of the woman, was also taken into custody. Both are held in the city jail pending further investigation by the federal authorities.

Officers declared this morning that Miss Willard frankly admitted she was engaged to the Japanese and intended to marry him soon.

Outside of the fact that she is said to have given her nationality as Swedish in making the trip from California here, the officers refused to say what other evidence, if any, they had against the woman and the Japanese.
