CANNOT PRACTICE

The Supreme Court Bars Young Japanese Lawyer Who Applied for Admittance.

By Telephone to The Times.

OLYMPIA, Wednesday, Oct. 22. -- The Supreme Court has filed an opinion upon the application of Takuji Yamashiti [Yamashita] for admission to the bar. This is the case of the young Japanese graduate from the law school of the State University, who passed the examination for admission to practice law in the state last spring, and the Supreme Court hesitated about admitting him for the reason that he is not a citizen of the United States, under the law which excludes Chinese and Japanese from naturalization. The young man filed his own brief with the court, and his examination before the legal committee was highly creditable, but all of this cannot change his nationality, and the Supreme Court now holds that he is bared [barred] from naturalization and therefore cannot be admitted.
