CANNERY MEN ASKED TO OUST JAPANESE

Demand Made on Anacortes Employers to Give Orientals' Places to Whites.

ANACORTES, Wednesday, July 21. -- At a mass meeting here last night a demand was made on cannery men to discharge at once 100 Japanese laborers and give their places to whites. The cannery men were told that the Japanese would be run out of town in case the demands were refused.

One cannery man interviewed by a committee said he would not pay any attention to the demand as he had made his contracts last fall for Japanese help and that they were doing a class of work whites would not do. Trouble is feared and deputy sheriffs have been summoned from Bellingham.
