WHITE SALOON PORTERS WOULD OUST JAPANESE

BILLINGS, Mont., Monday, March 22. -- Organization of saloon porters and a demand that only union men shall be employed in that capacity is the object of an agitation which has been begun by Billings labor leaders. The movement is said to be the first step in an organized effort to eliminate Japanese from the industrial situation in Eastern Montana, a movement which is expected to extend throughout the state. It is not denied that an appeal to Washington may result in international complications. In recent years, particularly since the beet sugar industry attained prominence, the number of Japanese in the Yellowstone Valley has largely increased, and their invasion of fields hitherto filled by Americans has steadily progressed.
