TO RESIST INVASION OF JAPANESE GROCERS

Retailers of Seattle to Meet on Monday and Discuss Campaign Against Orientals.

Initial action portending a vigorous campaign of resistance to the encroachments of Japanese into the retail grocery field in Seattle will be taken at a meeting of the Seattle Retail Grocers' Association which is to be held on Monday night, according to J.E. Patten, secretary of the association. Preliminary plans only will be discussed on Monday, but the meeting will signify the first steps in what is intended to be an extensive warfare against Japanese influences in the grocery business.

According to Patten, the rapid strides which Japanese have made in gaining a foothold in the retail trade have given rise to a situation menacing the white merchants. The intention of the grocers' organization is to utilize every possible agency to combat the further development of what is considered a serious situation.

The nature of the campaign which will be waged is as yet undetermined. This is one of the problems which probably will be discussed on Monday night. Several other organizations have signified intentions of cooperating with the grocers and will send representatives to the Monday meeting.
