LOCAL JAP TEAM TO PLAY CHICAGO BOYS

The University of Chicago baseball team, on the longest tour ever undertaken by a college nine, will be in Seattle next Friday and will meet the Mikados of Seattle in a game at Dugdale's park. The Mikados are the Japanese champions of the Northwest, and the scrap between the Jap nine and the team which is just about to invade the Orient ought to be interesting.

The Chicago nine came within a step of winning the western intercollegiate championship this season, and after the close of college began playing games in the Chicago city semi-pro league, winning a great majority of the games. The Maroons last week closed a series against the Logan Squares, captained by the famous Jimmy Callahan, former big leaguer. The rah-rah boys won the series from the semi-pros in whirlwind style.

However, they will have to go some to beat the scrappy little Japanese team. The Mikados have been playing good ball all summer. After the series with the Chicagoans was arranged, Manager Nakamura of the Mikados sent to California and secured two new men for his team, who are stars in the California Japanese league. One of them is a pitcher and the other an infielder. The Japs play great ball in the field and are fast and daring on the bases, but are usually weak in batting.

Chicago has a number of star athletes in the aggregation that Coach Stagg is sending to the Orient. Pat Page, the pitcher and manager, is one of the greatest football player the West has produced. There are twelve men in the squad and they will play at least a dozen games in the Orient.
