MRS. AOKI SUES FOR DIVORCE IN NEVADA

Daughter of Archdeacon Emery of California, Who Married Japanese, Seeking to Regain Her Freedom.

NOW WITH MORE AND BABY IN RENO

Efforts to Find Husband Here Prove Fruitless -- Not Known Whether He Has Gone to Southwest State.

Charging desertion and nonsupport, Helen Gladys Emery Aoki, who gained much notoriety by marrying Gunjiro Aoki, a servant employed by her father, Archdeacon John Emery, of California, yesterday filed suite for divorce in Reno, Nev.

Mrs. Aoki, with her mother and baby, is now in Reno. All efforts to find Aoki this morning were fruitless. At his place of business it was stated he had left the city. It could not be learned whether Aoki left for Reno or merely had absented himself to avoid inquiries.

The Aokis came to Seattle March 27, 1909, after a spectacular journey through California. Accompanied by her Japanese husband-to-be, the girl and her mother were unable to procure a license to wed in California. They went to Portland, Ore., and there also were refused. They then came to Seattle and were married. At first they settled in a Japanese colony near Bellevue, on the east shore of Lake Washington, later moving to Hillman City, where Aoki operated a chicken ranch. Coming to Seattle, they rented an apartment at 1023 Main Street, where they lived until Mrs. Aoki, with her baby and mother, left for Reno three weeks ago. While in Seattle the girl-wife always maintained she was happy and contented.
