M. FURUYA CO. IN NEW LOCATION

Beautiful New Store Thronged All Day With Friends and Patrons.

Profusely decorated with beautiful cut flowers and potted plants, the handsome new retain store of M. Furuya Company, at 1804 Second Avenue, was the center of attraction for downtown shoppers yesterday. The occasion was the formal opening of the new establishment, and all day long the place was thronged with friends and patrons, each of whom received a pretty hand-painted panel as a souvenir. Tea and dainty wafers from the Flowery Kingdom were served to all who visited the attractive tea room on the mezzanine floor, on which also is located the kimono room.

The opening of the new store marks a steady grown of the oldest concern of its kind in the state. Established in 1891 by Mr. Furuya, the company has, by careful and conservative management, grown to be the largest importer and exporter of Japanese wares in the Northwest, with branches in Tacoma, Portland, Vancouver, B.C., and Japan. The Seattle store, which contains one of the finest collections of modern and antique brasses, bronzes, hand-carved Japanese furniture, Japanese china an other art treasures, has long been looked upon as one of the show places of the city. Over the street entrance to the new home is a massive hand-carved transom piece, showing a tiger in a bamboo forest, typifying strength and beauty. It was designated especially for the new store and executed in Japan by a noted wood carver.
