PROTESTS MADE AGAINST JAPANESE EXCLUSION

SALEM, Ore., Monday, Feb. 8. Vigorous protests are coming to the state senate resolutions committee against State Senator Bailey's resolution memorializing Congress to extend the Chinese exclusion act to include all Asiatics. These protests are coming principally from personal friends of President Roosevelt in Portland and from the Japanese vice-consul stationed at Portland. Those opposing the resolution are urging that Japanese be exempted from its sweeping provisions. The resolutions committee has not taken action and is waiting to hear from all sides. Bailey, author of the resolution, is a member of the committee, and declares that he will make a fight for it to see that the resolution, without exempting the Japanese, is favorably reported.
