Dearest Frances,

I read your story and was moved by your skillful presentation of those agonizing days. I like your generalization and the challenge to all Americans. Thank you for speeding the copy to me.

For two weeks I went to Portland again and brought Mother home to live with me this time. The weather turned just as we arrived last night so, fortunately she hasn't complained about the humidity so far. Soon after I'm caught up with house and yard work I'd like to ask some friends about publishing your work.

It's the "Fourth" this bicentennial year – here in the Nation's Capitol. We're celebrating with a picnic in our back lawn.

Have a safe holiday.

Love,
Lury
