Dear Miss Schoen,

Father has asked me to write to you thanking you for your kindness during his stay in Santa Fe. He returned in the best of health and words can hardly express our sincere appreciation to you and others who were instrumental in helping him regain his health.

He arrived in Seattle on the 2nd of November and ate some chop suey which caused his first stomach upset within a year and a half. But since his return his stomach has not bothered him and he eats everything with relish. We are careful about his diet and lately he has been feasting like a king on the chickens and fish which his many friends have been bringing him. He no longer is afraid to eat raw fish and chuckles remembering how he upset everyone whenever he ate some there.

He reached Hawaii on the 13th of November after a rough trip. Tho [sic] he had the stomach upset in Seattle, he was well cared for by Mr. Suzuki and so was feeling his own self again by the time he reached port. We had some bad moments when someone erroneously reported he had left in an ambulance. Later we discovered that his fellow passengers had assumed he would be sent to the hospital for like the others he was listed on the sick list.

We had a truly thankful Thanksgiving this year as did many of the other families. We were thankful that he returned in good health and also for the fact that tho [sic] his travels were confined, still he had seen enough to make him realize what a great country America is. He really put us to shame when he named all the states and their capitals while we who had studied them in school fumbled terribly.

This is a belated letter but my family all joins me in thanking you again.

Sincerely,
Edna Hamamoto
