July 31, 1944

To the nurses:

What a perfectly lovely thing for you to do for me on the eve of my becoming "A retired employee of the P. H. S."!

Words cannot express my surprise and utter happiness over the thought which prompted the bestowal of the beautiful gift I received today!

The watch is perfect and will be a constant reminder of those with whom I have had such an interesting and satisfactory service life. I am truly sorry that you cannot see how lovely the watch really is.

The bonds will be used after the war is over for some real luxury – perhaps a South American tour!

I would like to thank you one and all

for the loyal, friendly cooperation you have given me since I have been your superintendent and without which it would have been impossible to have kept pace with the advancement made by the old divisions which now comprise the Bureau of Medical Services.

With every good wish to you all

Very sincerely yours
