Friend Frank:

Received your letter & was glad to hear from you & that you are out on your own. They just can't keep a good day down if he is honest, industrious & attends to his own business. I can imagine what you been through and it takes a real man to stand it without getting sour and licked but keep a stiff upper lip and keep trying. War is about as near Hell as we can get. Frank you ask for my opinion & I am going to give it to your straight from the shoulder as I believe it will do you most good by not trying to cover up. Their is a very bitter feeling here against the Japanese much more so than again the Germans and on the other hand you have some friends that think you are Human beings are honest and upright & have as good a right to make a living & have a peaceful home as we have. I notice throughout the nation there are more organizations churches etc that are protesting about your treatment and I still believe in time the fair mindedness of the American people will prevail and demand fair play. But if I were in your place Frank I would look around and rent a place, either their or at some other place where you are allowed to go & get farming for yourself, there is good money in Farming now. I notice by some of the news report that their are quite a few Japanese in Illinois, Colorado & other points there are quite a few around Spokane. I was in Colorado last September & that is a nice country, but their is some good stuff around Caldwell & Ontario near where you are at. I know it is hard to farm a year at a time if I were you I would take a 3 to 5 year at it so you can do a little planning and get your ground in good shape.

You know Frank the Pacific Coast is the melting pot for all nationalities & I find more noise about you people comes from Foreign born or first generations from other countrys than the people that have been here for many generations. We have very few gardners left here they can't get labor some Philipinos and just a few other gardeners no shipping to speak of.

The Bulb growing has gone forward in leaps & bounds as their are no imports now in that live. The Packers and freezers are farming some large chunks themselves mostly beans & corn the Berry industry is big not uncommon to get 1000.00 acre gross. Also some are raising Seed Cabbage Beets Spinach etc. I was in a 25 acre cabbage seed patch the other day and they figure they will harvest all 800.00 acre crop of this year and you know that is not too much work they have machines to do the planting they work pretty good if your land is in good shape. Beet seed last year some harvested around 1500.00 acre gross, but you know seeds are from 2 to 3 times higher than they were before the war.

Give my regards to the other Fife Boys & kindest regards to yourself & family.

Respectfully
[illegible]
