Dear Sir:

The family of Shinjiro Morita, now interned at Lordsbury Internment Camp, is petitioning for a re-opening of his case and requesting permission that he join them. As a family friend for the past five years, I would like to state my knowledge of Mr. Morita and the Morita family.

In 1939 I was chosen by the Japanese consul and members of the Japanese community to be a member of the Canadian-American teachers group to visit Japan. Upon my return never once was I asked to make a statement or participate in behalf of Japan or the Japanese people. I offer the following statements sincerely and unbiased.

My contact with the Morita family began with the Morita children at Garfield High School. I have been a visitor at the Morita home many times and have observed the children's home environment -- true Christians, loyal and close family ties, and good citizens. All of the children were born in America and the parents have never returned to Japan.

Mr. Morita has been employed by the Holland Hotel as an interpreter and guide for all Japanese stopping in Seattle. He was also interested in the financial settlement of the estate of Mr. Minami, his father-in-law and former owner of the hotel. I believe, thru Mr. Morita's position, he may be able to give valuable aid to our government.

The fine character and ideals of Mr. Morita's family to me is a reflection of the character of parents and I would like to see Mr. Morita have the opportunity to prove my faith in his loyalty to America.

Sincerely yours
/s/ (Miss) Marian White

Subscribed and sworn to before me this 27th day of February 1943.
