GERMANY SURRENDERS

Germany has surrendered unconditionally to the United States, Great Britain, Russia and France.

This historic news was flashed to the world after the German Chief of Staff, General Jodl, signed the unconditional surrender articles at General Eisenhower's command post in France. The articles were signed on 7 May at 0230, French time.

Events leading up to the unconditional surrender of Germany include the mass surrenders of German armies in Holland, Denmark, Italy, Austria and northwestern Germany; the death of the dictators, Hitler and Mussolini; the fall of Perlin; the complete destruction of large German cities; and, the utter crushing of the German Navy and Air Forces.
