Many Japanese soldiers who have become unconscious during an engagement have already been received by American forces on this island. In the furious battles on this island, many soldiers have become shellshocked and stunned, and were therefore unable to resist capture. Everyone of them was dispatched immediately to the rear for medical treatment. There they have been given shelter, clothing, hot food and HUMANE TREATMENT.

These soldiers have been amazed at American kindness and generosity. As one soldier said:

"Japanese propaganda is decidedly inaccurate and I feel it my duty to mention the unexpectedly kind treatment, which actually astounded me. When I noted the thorough medical treatment accorded our wounded I felt keenly that from none but your country (America), renowned for its wealth, would such facilities be possible. The kind treatment rendered by the doctors and corpsmen was such that might be expected from acquaintances of long standing and not that of an enemy country."
