Christmas Greetings
and
Happy New's Year

December 10, 1944

To friends in Procurement Office.

Season Greetings to you alls. After long silence, I decided to write you folks a short letters, and reacquiantent myself with you again.

Recently, I have learned news of Mr. M. Miller death at Boise. It is saddening to learn friend die when their friendship needed by us most, today. Other than that, I assumed Appointed Personal still remain same. But how is evacuee workers? I am understood great deal have changed since I left Minidoka.

I am hoping from this letter, that some of you might write answer to this letter to me, if worker is not too, radically changed. If I remember right, only personal answered my last letter was Mrs. Haruye Harada. Good for her, I alway said. I could depended upon her for everythings.

As myself, I am still working for the same firm, and getting along nicely. We have been so busy since last Labor's Day we work everynight everydays, and getting mighty tire from it. But I have never enjoyed, other than yours' office, a place to work for it. The employees and atmosphere is most friendly and hospitable. I really enjoy my fellow employees and their friendship.

My summarily activities other than my work since I came to Boston has been very interesting and wide choices. In earlier part of spring, I was too busy getting acquaintance with outside world from camp, I took no interest in my spare moment for others lesuire activities other than my mental exercises to reacquainted myself for out side world.

In summer, however, I have made up my lost time, by hiking, motor-ride, party, etc. To-day, we go horse riding frequently with my friends. Fortunately, I am living very nice residential district, where recreation of every kinds is within short distance from our home. We are waiting colder days so we could go out ice skating and skii. We have already saved considerable food for mid-night smack for our ice-skating party, we are planning to hold in first skatable day.

The climate here in New England is rather similar in many respect, except for dampness in summer, and little colder in winter. Otherwise, the countryside and scenery have much in common. I feel very much at home.

The people as whole, is much friendly and respect our position individual rather than racially, I have had no single incedent of embarrasment because of my racial origin, except for job interview here question of loyalty exist. In this case, almost everyone ask why I wasn't drafted. My only explanation is I don't know myself. I hope in time it might solve the problem itself.

To my surprising, I have found most of New Englanders is almost total ignorant of Japanese and country. In many cases, our conversation with my friends, their description of Japanese peoples are Comic interpretation of "Buck Tooth" and "Monkey Face". It is easy for me to enlight them, because what they know about Japanese is almost identical from Front Page Newspaper column of average Newspaper in this country.

For this reason alone, I would suggest Evacuees still left in camp to relocate earliest as possible, for it will do them much good and same time educate misinformed average Americans. In all cases where Japanese relocated in this area have given better public opinion then otherwise. But don't relocate just for sake of waiting to get away from camp. For you girls, don't take first domestic offer too far from your family, for most of grievance I hear from girl in this area are in this category. Best policy is to sell your folks and relocate together.

Enough has been said, and they are all dry reading far as I could see as so I will say good-bye here. I hope you people will at least drop a line saying "Hello" to me, much as you hate me.

Your friend,

Tatsuo T. Tajima

P.S. As Xmas gift, I have send box of candies to you folks, I hope you will enjoy it. Even here in Boston candies are hard to get, so contents in that box is best I could send you this time, however, I will have my eye open for more and if I should see it I will try to send you later. Provided, if I get one answer from invitation, so get your courage and write to-day.

Good-bye all, and again I will say Merry Xmass and Happy New's Year to you alls.
