Dear Mr. Merrill --

I was exceedingly happy to receive your letter tho' you would never think so from my procrastination in answering. Nevertheles your missive was greatly appreciated and also the lovely Seasons' Greetings. And I sincerely hope you and your family started off the year in a good fashion!

Now that the restrictions on the West Coast have been lifted you must be confronted with many new problems. Ticklish problems some of them 'cause I know how some of the older generations require treatment with "kid gloves."

By the way am I wrong in supposing that you and Mr. Mann are [section missing].

Teruko Kusaka. She is a young matron now and is living in Boise as yet. Teru seems to be blissfully happy in her married life.

In a few more days I'll have been here a year. My first impression of Chicago wasn't anything the Chamber of Commerce would have delighted to hear. But now that I have lived here for the past 12 months I can honestly say it is not a bad place to make a living in. Tho' with anyone having children, young children, I would not recommend this life, living in flats & apartment houses.

We'll I've chattered long and late in the night so will call it "30" for now. Regards to all.

Sincerely, Martha Oye
