Hi ya Joe,

This morning I finished ironing. The house we are living in has not changed yet but if papa has some time he might make a side door inorder to keep the house more cooler.

Boy the weather has been really hot and you cant keep cool either. Remember when we put the plaster boards in the house, well it makes the house more hotter because the heat goes against the house and it doesn't go away. One day of the last week it was very hot and I took a better look at the thermometer and it was 102 degrees. The next time I heard the man across the street say it was 105 degrees. The next day mama came into the house and said it was 108 degrees and then it was worse yet the next day it was around 110 degrees. Boy, hot huh?

[Page 2]

I had shorts on in the house and had cold water. It is so hot some times that you go outside and the hot wind comes from the mojave desert and it doesn't feel too good. Gee it must feel horrible to have good weather and then all of a sudden it begins to pour. Has the weather changed any??????

It seems that I write two letters evry day with this typewriter and it is a lots of fun. I wrote a letter to the varins this morning and now this letter is for you.

You said you went to Riverside and enjoyed the amusements that they had. Gee the things are pretty high aren't they. But I thought I was pretty high when they charged me 10 cents for a game but I guess I wasn't. You really are pretty lucky to get to go to a store and buy things freely than go to a place like the canteen and find a person wearing the same clothes you are. And then buy the same stuff they do.

[Page 3]

Whoops, the typewriter would have to rip the paper.

In front of the house we have some things growing such as cactus, lemon trees, snaps, pine tree, melon, and some others that I don't know the names of. All the neighbors have made some flower gardens and vegetable gardens.

They eat the vegetables but when they give you plenty of food at the mess hall you really don't need to eat it. That's why we didn't plant any food garden. The people who eat too much in between meals get sick like the next door lady but now shes home. Some times theysell fish at the canteen and the neighbors frie it and it stinks in the house. On the side of our house inbetween macs barack they planted peanuts.

You remember the bachlors that used to live in front of our barrack, well those things are really beginning

to be anusence to us. Every night we have to keep the light off because they look into the house and stare all the time. Boy if you don't stare back at them they stare all night and day. Hay, did you think the meal at the chinese restaurant tasted good? Are there many chinese store around there?

That must have been swell to have george sakata come over. I wish I could be with you when you go to the zoo and aquarium and museum. I can hardly wait to see those pictures.

Towru will have to go to summer school next week and then he will be through with school.

When you didn't write for four days we all missed the letters and waited and waited and finally this morning the mail man brought a letter and were we happy. We're glad that you like the snapshots and glad that it keeps you more happier. Did you compare yourself with the picture?

[Page 5]

All of the neighbor boys are all gone. (practically). The Iiyamas family goes like this. Hinee army. Take furlough. Matsu furlough. Kenny M. furlough. George O. furlough. Mr. Odahara furlough. Boe hamamoto chcago. And many others. Mac goes around with masato, roy higa, sus, ioki, min ioki, and some more.

I don't have any thing to do in the summer because it is so hot and loafing is about the only practical thing to do in the hot days.

Gosh I write so much I don't have any thing to tell you. Let see now, Oh yah you said you played the piano. Gee you are pretty lucky. I hardly know how to play any more but I am trying to keep my fingers limb by typing all the time. I hope it is helping a little bit.

Yes mama will make you some crepe paper roses as soon as possible.

[Page 6]

Yesterday I borrowed a tennis racket and tried to play and boy am I corney. The only thing that I can do is to serve with that tennis form you showed me with but gee it really is a lots of fun.

If we ever get together as a family would you like to teach me how to play tennis? Well joe this letter is a letter of no interest so I will end now.

Masako

P.S. It seems that Im the only one that write all the time so I will tell Towru and mama to write more. Maybe papa too.

typewriter isn't going to good so excuse the mistakes.
